Heritage in Schools

Heritage in Schools Specialists to deliver 200+ visits reaching over 7,000 children in support of the Department of Education & Youth’s Primary School Summer Programme.

The theme for the Department of Education & Youth’s summer programme this year is ‘Building Confidence and Connections’. The programme supports students with complex special educational needs and those at risk of educational disadvantage.

The Primary School Scheme caters for children in special classes as well as those in mainstream classes who have special educational needs, and those who are at risk of educational disadvantage. In addition, DEIS schools are running literacy and numeracy summer camps.

The Heritage Council has been supporting these programmes since 2022 by extending the Heritage in Schools Scheme to run outside school term. This year 200 visits will be delivered by our Heritage in Schools Specialists reaching over 7,000 children.

Have you ever seen a volcanic bomb, a fossil dinosaur bone or a mammoth’s tooth? Have you ever glimpsed a falling star, and would you like to hold one in your very own hand? Each Crate of Curiosities workshop is a treasure trove of heritage wonders, many of which were collected by Vincent during his twenty years of worldwide travels working onboard expedition cruise ships. They are an active learning mini mobile museum.

Come back in time with me to discover all about Irish history and archaeology. Together we will learn all about the amazing Irish heritage through fun and interactive presentations, original crafts, and a true hands-on approach to bring history back to life directly to your class. All of my workshops are relevant to many strands of the SESE Curriculum and can be customised upon request.

Get hands-on with history and explore archaeology! Frankie’s workshops bring the past to life – investigating the lives of ‘Children in the Past’ through artefact handling, living history and ancient craft activities. Frankie specialises in child-centered, inclusive learning and her workshops support the key strands of the SESE Curriculum from Early Peoples (Stone Age) through to Viking, Norman and Medieval units, as well as the STEM Curriculum.
