Katriina is a professional ecologist who builds the learning  experience she offers during her workshops on her own educational journey, from primary school to college biology studies in Finland, where natural heritage is woven into the entire school curriculum.

The privilege of growing up with a large, primeval forest as a playground yielded opportunities for unique encounters with nature that she likes to replicate in her sessions.

Her work with children with additional needs and as a children’s arts facilitator adds to a holistic and inclusive learning experience.

Katriina coordinates restoration ecological projects with community groups improving flower meadows for pollinators and biodiversity restoration on sand dunes. She is a fully licenced seal rescue volunteer and likes to bring the theme of marine biodiversity into her work.

From the budding of spring to frost, snow and hibernation, including seasonal outdoor visits to nearby habitats.

A mix of outdoor observation of the fascinating world of birds with binoculars combined with classroom fun facts and activities.

Creating a glass terrarium with plants, stones and sticks collected during outdoor exploration to demonstrate ecosystems and chemical cycles.

Investigating these unique features of Irish natural heritage and biodiversity hot spots.

Irish native trees, forest ecology in a (pine)nutshell.

Making connections between food and pollinators, our key, umbrella and flagship species.

Sampling insects from a waterbody for a stereomicroscopic study, marine mammals, seal ecology and rescue facts, aquatic life.
