Projects can incorporate waste and recycling, energy, water, marine environment and biodiversity.

I can work with one class or a few classes looking at different areas of biodiversity such as local habitats & ecosystems, covering local flora and fauna which can be found throughout the different seasons of the year.

The aim of the visit is to carry out hands-on, interactive workshops in primary schools so as to enhance children’s learning about the natural environment. Workshops illustrations may also include live insect specimens in bug viewers and lots of other interesting species

Bee Wise

The aim of Bee Wise is to carry out hands-on, interactive workshops in schools to promote the protection of pollinator species in the environment. Helping student to be able to identify such species as honey bees, bumblebee's, solitary bees, butterflies, moths, damselflies and dragonflies. Bee Wise educational workshops aim to educate students about all aspects of the natural environment. To give schools, students and teachers ideas on how to develop the school grounds and raise awareness on biodiversity by planting local Irish pollinator-friendly flowers, shrubs and trees.

Students shall be shown the importance of cultivation of wild-flower meadows/gardens in order to reverse the decline in the 99 species of bees and other pollinators in Ireland. The workshop shall highlight the benefits of bees and other pollinator species to the local environment, community and school grounds. Students will learn through the workshops how much we depend on biodiversity daily for food clothes etc. and why its important for a sustainable future.

Workshops can be tailored for the indoor classroom and/or outdoor classroom pending on the weather.

Students can carry out an environmental audit of the school grounds and local area identifying habitats and learning of ways to protect different living species in local ecosystems.

Wonder of marine life

Children will experience the wonderful magic of the marine world around us and learn how to identify different seashore species, both edible and non-edible, such as shellfish, seaweed algae, fish, birds and mammals.

The wonder of marine life workshop will consist of hands-on interaction of seashore creatures and plants. Students shall also learn how fresh water aquatic invertebrate insect species can be used as bio-indicators of water pollution and invertebrate specimens will be displayed. The different point and nonpoint sources of eutrophication of waters will be demonstrated and explained.

Children will learn species identification, healthy seashore edibles that can be collected, the importance of filter feeders and decomposers within marine life, the tidal zones of the seashore and they will learn the importance of the biggest ecosystem in the world ‘The Ocean’.

The workshop will also include the importance of protecting the marine environment from pollution.
Children can look at different marine species and observe sea creatures from my underwater videos/ photos and they will see and learn about the array of different sea plants that can be found around our coast. The outcome of the workshops will include a deeper appreciation of the marine world and its inhabitants. Also as well as been able to identify marine species of shellfish, seaweeds etc. Children will learn the importance of eating healthy seashore foods and protecting our natural marine resources.

Visits can include indoor workshops and/or outdoor trips to local coastal areas or lakes, rivers, streams and ponds to access the local fresh water aquatic invertebrate species such asstoneflies. mayflies, caddisflies, leeches etc. and then view them under microscopes for identification.
