This workshop teaches young people mindfulness techniques based on the practices of Irish saints. It also teaches pupils about life in an early Irish monastery. Videos of ancient churches like Skellig Michael and 3D models of High Crosses are shown to illuminate the topic. Each pupil will also complete an arts and craft activity such as: make a chalice or bell or draw a page from the Book of Kells.

Outdoor tours of local sites which provide children with research tools to get to know their home. This tour shows pupils how to research their local area and create a brochure to highlight its history. A craft activity and personalised worksheet is available for this workshop.

On this outdoor tour pupils go on a folklore treasure hunt of all the local legendary places near their home and make a ‘Beast Book’ of the enchanting creatures they discover. The children learn about Cuchulainn, the children of Lir or Midir and Etain through masks and make a mask to celebrate an ancient hero. They also learn how to become a Seanchaí.

What was life in your town like in the Middle Ages? Take a tour of castles, ringforts and churches, archaeology, maps, and records to discover what life was like between 500 A.D to 1500 A.D. This tour includes lots of games and crafts.
