Richard is a professional blacksmith who has taught and demonstrated blacksmith skills for over 15 years in schools, colleges, museums and community projects, including teaching students with learning difficulties.

Richard is passionate about the craft of the blacksmith, working and creating forged items with the most basic of tools. Pumping the bellows to force air into the fire and striking/hitting glowing pieces of iron to form beautiful items and using techniques that haven’t changed since the Iron Age.

Students will be able to pump the bellows to pump air into the forge depending on their height and abilities.  They will get to hit a piece of hot steel to make an item from history.

Pupils get to see pictures of old Viking coins and then get to draw their own Viking coin from there own imagination and not simply a copy. They stamp their design onto an aluminium coin blank using letter stamps and basic hand tools.
