Book in-person visit

Luana Jungmann is a passionate marine conservationist and environmental educator who traveled the world to discover different research projects and dealt with a variety of marine conservation topics.  Her marine biology and teaching background inspired the creation of a concept that could meet the increasing demand to pass on the information collected by scientists to the public in a pedagogical and funny way.

These workshops are both based on science and give an insight on how researchers work in a very dynamic and hands-on approach.

The children will be able to learn about their marine environment, the diversity and abundance of marine mammal species in Ireland, to understand conservation issues and solutions, and to be direct guardians of our precious Marine Irish Heritage.

The activities are based on local and international research and provide children with basic scientific skills with some activities taking place outdoors in order to provide an in-situ experience.

The primary goal of this project is to bring a sense of wonder and excitement about the ocean to participants in the hope that they will feel inspired to become leaders in marine conservation efforts.

In-person school visit

The Marine Mammals workshop is an introduction to cetaceans, their evolution and hands-on activities to better understand how to identify them and how they communicate. Children will be able to play detectives and meet our real size fabric Orca, named Pingu, from the strait of Gibraltar!

The second level of this workshop involves having a more in depth understanding of conservation measures for marine mammals by learning how to save a stranded dolphin and playing an interactive game “Dolphins and whirl pools” another version of snake and ladders with conservation questions and actions.

The Changes in the Ocean workshop aims to give children an understanding of the Ocean’s contribution to our daily lives and how we can help reduce our human impact. We also look at marine renewable energies, understanding climate change variables, the carbon footprint concept and measuring the children’s own carbon footprint.

A variation of the Changes in the Ocean workshop is also available for infants, with a book reading and discussion followed by a “Save our Ocean”  treasure hunt in which the children have to save the different animals that are trapped. They will also be able to explore their creativity and attention by painting a fish with their hands.
