Book in-person visit

My visits will build a connection with the school environment through hands-on exploration and learning, with the aim of developing an understanding and appreciation of biodiversity with the wider environment.

The aim of my visits is to help pupils and teachers cultivate a deeper connection with their natural heritage by empowering pupils and teachers alike by sharing practical skills and knowledge through outdoor immersive learning that links with the SESE curriculum strands to enhance Cuntas Míosúil plans.

My most recent pupil-led project was an exciting and innovative project which was funded by the Arts Council of Ireland, Arts Grant Funding and supported by the Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA). The Classroom in the Sun project, with artist Clodagh Emoe supported a school community to connect with nature and realise their ambition to design and create a biodiverse outdoor space for junior infants to 2nd class students.

No school green space it too small to discover what’s outside your class room window. My workshops will help your school make the most of your outdoor space and acquire the knowledge to nurture it beyond my visit. I am keen to incorporate your vision for an existing or proposed school garden space.

"If The People Lead, Eventually The Leaders Will Follow" !

The aim of this workshop is to explore the outdoor space in the school grounds or nearby park. This will include exploring biodiversity in these locations, covering different topics depending on the time of year, for example collecting, storing and sowing seeds; identifying trees by their leaves, flowers and/or fruit, identifying pollinator friendly native plants and school seed bank for native specimens and pollinator friendly plants.

The aim of this session is to introduce the concept of pollinator-friendly plants, especially our native species, and explore the different pollinators that may visit the school grounds. This will help pupils to understand the vital role pollinators play in their school grounds and beyond, into their home spaces and wider community. It will also show the importance of leaving space for nature in the school grounds. The aim also is to develop the children’s observational, recording skills as well as literacy.

The aim of this workshop is to introduce the concept and value of organic gardening practices for pollinators, and together explore ways to help develop a growing space or maintain an existing school garden whilst looking at ways to make our work friendly to the environment and sustainable. This may include creating an organic school garden for growing food, whilst still leaving wild spaces in the grounds for nature. Themes of reduce-reuse-recycle will be incorporated into this session.
