Book in-person visit

Jessica has over twenty years experience working with children in Environmental Education, both in and out of the school setting. During Jessica's visit, the children learn about the environment, our impact on it and how they can actively make changes to improve the future of our planet. Jessica's workshops are engaging, hands-on and full of fun.

Jessica's visits tie in well with the green flag themes and can be tailored to meet the schools current projects and curriculum topics. Jessica has an MSc in Learning for Sustainability and a degree in Environmental Science. She has worked for organisations such as the Coomhola Salmon Trust, ENFO, Science Foundation of Ireland and Cork Environmental Forum.

Her workshops link into the Irish Primary Curriculum. SESE and Visual Arts - Combining environmental education and art provides a cross-curricular approach where the children have a hands on experience through outdoor nature art installations or school murals.

One of the most important aspects of environmental education is connecting with the world around us and celebrating the biodiversity on our doorstep. Jessica combines classroom talks, nature artefacts and outside activities in order to achieve this.

Jessica can take schools on field trips to local rivers or streams to look at the wildlife there and make an assessment of water quality. If the school doesn't have an accessible river nearby she can bring the river to your classroom with samples of river water for a field trip simulation.

How we use materials and resources has changed over time and is inextricably linked with issues around climate change, environmental destruction and habitat loss. Jessica combines hands on activities with different materials such as upcycling with a look at resource use and sustainability.

Climate change is a huge issue facing humanity, and one that can be overwhelming and daunting for children. Jessica uses nature connection and biodiversity as a way to look at climate change in terms of actions.

Jessica can help with planning gardens for growing organic food or nature gardens for biodiversity, work on garden maintenance and harvest days.

Testimonials

  • "The children love Jessica's visits. We all have learned so much information about organic growing ."
  • "Jessica and the children kept account of each task/achievement/challenge at the end of each lesson. This was invaluable as a record of what was done and as a reflection time. In that way teachers and pupils could refer to the 'garden book' for what jobs needed to be done between Jessica's visits and they enjoyed the teamwork approach to the project."
