Book in-person visit

Helena has been a facilitator at the Kerry County Museum for many years and has taught Irish history to children using the mediums of storytelling, handling collections and crafts. Her lessons span centuries and a multitude of topics from bushcrafts to crimes and punishments. She will appear in Gaelic Irish clothing based on a set of clothes discovered in a bog, dating from the 16th century.

A storytelling session based on one of Ireland’s legends. A short discussion then about how the story is relevant to the children and what lessons may be learned from it. A fun and colourful craft session will follow, inspired by the story.

This is an IN SCHOOL based activity.

A handling collection of artifacts used by the native Irish. How did people live in Ireland before electricity? What did their houses look like? What did they eat? All questions will be answered in this broad reaching lesson. A practical craft session will then follow.

Based on the capability of the school this can be an IN SCHOOL activity or can be adapted for a FIELD TRIP experience.
