Ellie McEwan established Elemental Outdoor Learning with the main aim of connecting children with their natural world for their mutual benefit. As a trained and experienced Forest School leader, Ellie specialises in delivering programs of regular outdoor sessions that follow children’s interests and needs, building on their skills and abilities from session to session. Hands-on experiences that take advantage of what each season has to offer help to instill a deep understanding and love of nature in children, awakening their awe and wonder in the natural world.
Sessions can include games and activities that help children learn about the flora and fauna in their local environment, natural arts and crafts (including the use of tools), community/team building games, wild food foraging and fire. Sessions are tailored to the needs of the class and location. Ellie offers workshops tailored to specific themes such as supporting native biodiversity and exploring Celtic seasonal celebrations. Bespoke workshops can be planned based on school curriculum focus and class interests.
Testimonials
"Excellent! Ellie's preparation was second to none and her workshops thoroughly engaging. She is a lovely presence and has a great way with kids. The topics are very interesting and cover the SESE curriculum well." - St. Brendan's NS, Mayo
"The six week programme ticked all the boxes. Ellie was excellent. The programme’s biggest success is that the children are now meeting up regularly to play in the outdoor spaces in Irishtown. Everyone including the teachers general well-being has been improved." - Irishtown NS, Mayo
"First time booking a Heritage in Schools visit. Ellie was great with the children. They really engaged with the activities, and enjoyed the visit. Will definitely facilitate a further visit in autumn. Thanks Ellie!" - Scoil Mhuire, Moycullen
"Excellent!" - Bekan NS, Mayo
"Ellie's organisation, attention to detail, resources and activities were really fabulous. Every child from junior infants to 6th was completely engaged, learned a lot and really enjoyed the walk and art activities afterwards. They loved it. We would definitely love to have her back in autumn to celebrate the change of season again!" - St. Brendan's NS, Mayo
