Free school visits for National Hedgerow Week 2-8 September, 2024

To celebrate National Hedgerow Week 2024, 2-8 September, the Heritage Council is offering 100 free Heritage in Schools visits to primary schools. Visit content must relate to Irish hedgerows and must take place between Monday, 2nd September and Friday, 6th September.

National Hedgerow Week, which is a partnership between Teagasc and the Heritage Council, aims to raise awareness of the importance of hedges for agriculture, biodiversity and climate.

To apply for a free visit:


1 .Visit the Heritage in Schools website www.heritageinschools.ie and browse our Heritage Specialists. Select your county from the drop-down menu and browse Specialists profile pages.

2. Contact the Heritage in Schools Specialist to arrange a date and then select ‘book a visit’ on that Specialist’s profile page.

3. Reference ‘HEDGEROW WEEK’ on the booking form.

4. You will receive an email with a reference number when your free visit is approved. The offer is limited to one free visit per school and will be allocated on a first come basis.

Visits must take place during Hedgerow Week (2-6 September) and cannot be re-scheduled.
