Celebrating Irish Calendar Customs

Designer

The Heritage Council is delighted to continue its celebration of Irish Calendar Customs by offering free Heritage in Schools visits to primary schools to mark Bealtaine on 1 May.

Primary schools are invited to book a free Bealtaine-themed visit, which can take place anytime between 27 April and 1 May.

Bealtaine marks the beginning of summer - a time of renewal, growth, and vibrant colour as flowers bloom and trees burst into leaf. These free visits will introduce children to Irish customs, folklore, and the cultural significance of this festival.

Please note we have a limited number of Heritage in Schools Specialists and we will not be able to accommodate all schools – bookings will be taken on a first come basis.

How to Apply for a Free Visit

1. Visit the Heritage in Schools website www.heritageinschools.ie and browse our Heritage Specialists. Select your county from the drop-down menu and browse Specialists profile pages.

2. Contact the Heritage in Schools Specialist to arrange a date and then select ‘book a visit’ on that Specialist’s profile page.

3. You will receive an email with a reference number when your free visit is approved. The offer is limited to one free visit per school and will be allocated on a first come basis.

4. Please include a summary of what the visit will include with reference to Bealtaine.

The visit must take place between 27 April and 1 May and cannot be re-scheduled.

Schools who are awarded a free visit are asked to tag the Heritage Council on their socials using:
