Annette, of Scéalta Beo (Living Stories) is a Certified Educator with the Permaculture Association UK, with an MLitt in Creativity which explored the integration of art across the primary curriculum. Scéalta Beo are passionate about biodiversity, heritage and the natural world and have been involved with formal and informal education for decades. This included running Creative Ardagh, at Ardagh Heritage and Creativity Centre, an SFI Discover Centre.

They also design and implement food growing systems and wildlife gardens in a range of settings including schools and communities.

In-person school visits

Whether you want to design a vegetable garden or food forest from scratch, develop sensory areas, or enhance the outdoor learning environment, Scéalta Beo can guide students through a design process which looks closely at local stories, heritage, landscape and biodiversity for inspiration. Ideas can then be implemented by the students to create an abundant living classroom. This is best done over a series of visits.

Get guidance for the Biodiversity Green Flag or just look closely at native trees, mini-beasts or animal habitats around your school. Scéalta Beo can help you explore and creatively interact with the outdoor learning environment, getting hands-on experience and connecting with the living stories all around us.

Mythology and storytelling helped our ancestors understand and deal with crisis, which makes them very important tools in this era of climate change. Many of the ancient stories of the Tuatha Dé Dannan tell us how the land was shaped and how to care for it, as well as the importance of native trees, animals and our sacred sites. Scéalta Beo have props and visual aids to enhance their storytelling.
