Heritage in Schools Archaeology Day 2025
Over 600 children and 65 teachers and SNAs from local Kilkenny primary schools gathered at Áras na hOidhreachta on 13th June for our third annual Heritage in Schools Archaeology Day.
Throughout the day, participants engaged in hands-on taster sessions led by our Heritage in Schools specialists, exploring Ireland’s rich archaeological heritage. Topics included Prehistoric Kilkenny, Blacksmithing, Rocks and Fossils, and much more—offering a fun and educational experience for all.
This year’s event was especially meaningful as we celebrated the 25th anniversary of the Heritage in Schools programme.
The event was held as part of the European Archaeology Days, coordinated across Europe by the National Institute for Preventive Archaeological Research (Inrap), and in Ireland by the Heritage Council.
