Heritage in Schools Annual Networking Day 2026
The Heritage in Schools annual Heritage Specialists meeting was held in Portlaoise on 29 & 30 June bringing 70 specialists together from across the country. The event provided a valuable opportunity for participants to connect, collaborate, share ideas, and enhance their knowledge through a programme of learning and professional development.
In addition to receiving important programme updates from the Heritage Council, participants took part in training sessions on supporting primary school children with special educational needs (SEN), the All-Ireland Pollinator Plan, using storytelling to bring heritage into the classroom, and understanding the rhythms of semi-diurnal tides, springs and neaps.
The afternoon provided an opportunity for site visits, with participants choosing between a visit to the Rock of Dunamase, Abbeyleix Bog, or a guided walking tour of Abbeyleix town.
