Celebrating Irish Calendar Customs

Primary schools are invited to celebrate Imbolc, the feast day of St Brigid, and the arrival of spring by bringing these themes to life in the classroom through a free Heritage in Schools visit on Friday, 30th January 2026.
These visits will explore Irish customs, folklore, and the cultural significance of Imbolc, offering pupils a unique opportunity to connect with Ireland’s rich heritage.
The Heritage Council will fully fund these visits.
How to Apply for a Free Visit
1 .Visit the Heritage in Schools website www.heritageinschools.ie and browse our Heritage Specialists. Select your county from the drop-down menu and browse Specialists profile pages.
2. Contact the Heritage in Schools Specialist to arrange a date and then select ‘book a visit’ on that Specialist’s profile page.
3. You will receive an email with a reference number when your free visit is approved. The offer is limited to one free visit per school and will be allocated on a first come basis.
4. Please include a summary of what the visit will include with reference to Imbolc/Brigid.
The visit must take place on Friday, 30th January and cannot be re-scheduled.
