Split Hills and Long Hill Esker SAC

Split Hill and Long Hill Esker is one of the finest and longest wooded eskers in the country. It is also one of the few woodlands in the area - semi-natural woodland dominated by Hazel, Ash and Hawthorn. Pedunculate Oak, Wych Elm and Irish Whitebeam are also present.

The site is of great botanical and ecological importance and the lower ground comprises Orchid-rich Calcareous Grassland.

Visiting:

Entrance to the site on the R446  west of Tyrrellspass. There is a trail through the woodland and esker.
