Rothe House
Nestled in the centre of Ireland’s Medieval Mile, Rothe House and Garden is one of Kilkenny’s hidden gems. A visit is high on the list of things to do in the Marble City. Built between 1594 and 1610 this was the home of the renowned merchant, landowner and Mayor of Kilkenny City, John Rothe Fitz Piers, his wife Rose Archer, and their eleven children.
School pupils who visit us at Rothe House and Garden are guaranteed to have fun as well as learn.
With staff in character and costume, children will have the opportunity to learn about the art and artefacts of the period as well as the fascinating Rothe Family and life in Renaissance Kilkenny as they wander through the rooms, courtyards and gardens.
Pupils will get to dress up in costume themselves and feel what it was like to be ladies and gentlemen of various occupations in Medieval and Renaissance Kilkenny.
