Burren Nature Sanctuary

The Burren Nature Sanctuary in Kinvara, Co. Galway is located on a 50acre organic farm and is an ideal setting to introduce children to the natural and cultural heritage of the wonderful Burren landscape.

The tour is an exploration of the mile long looped nature trail through biodiverse ash and hazel woodland and wildflower meadows.  The shattered limestone pavement and rare tidal turlough (a seasonal lake that appears twice a day) introduce children to Burren geology.  Educational programmes are suitable for all ages from Junior up to 6th class

Tour Activities Include:

  • How the unique Burren landscape is formed
  • Discover the lake that disappears into limestone caves and re-appears in time with the tides
  • Plant identification - learn about the different flowers that grow in the Burren
  • Learn about how our ancestors used trees and plants in their daily lives for food and shelter
  • Visit the farmyard animals for feeding time
  • Burren Challenge Adventure Zip Wire
