Book in-person visit

During a class visit, Vincent focuses on the day-to-day jobs that keep a farmer busy - both on the farm and in the farmhouse. His visit includes an engaging presentation on daily life on the farm and a number of practical demonstrations - including how to make butter and grind corn into flour. He also engages the children in a conversation about the food that we eat - where it comes from and how mainstream methods of farming differ from the traditional model. A field trip to his organic farm in Laois can also be arranged.

Vincent studied geography and the environment and has a passion for farming heritage in Ireland. He has been practicing organic farming in Co. Laois for over 25 years.

During a visit to Cullahill Mountain we will look at its unspoilt landscape, talk about its customs and traditions associated with the land, visit an ancient well, the remains of a pre-famine farmhouse and enjoy nature at it’s best.

On the hike we will forage for berries nuts and sample some wild berries (autumn). We will talk about people's ways of life and how they survived what was, by today’s standards, a harsh environment.

Take a virtual tour of Cullahill Mountain:
