A visit from Tom allows the children to engage with the exciting history and heritage of their landscape. Tom provides an engaging presentation and discussion of heritage features in the area - such as megalithic tombs, ringforts, monasteries, churches, castles, houses and mills. Tom brings history to life for the pupils by relating it directly to the buildings that they may see every day in their locality. He also explores the origins of local place names to show how they sometimes relate to a significant historical aspect or function of the place. A guided heritage walk in the locality, guided by Tom, also gives the children an opportunity to experience both their built and environmental heritage first hand.
