Susanna has many years experience delivering textile craft workshops to children, adults and those with special needs. Her workshops introduce the children to the world of wool where it comes from and how it is spun, dyed, woven and felted. The children are given the opportunity to spin their own wool and to create their own pencil case, wall-hanging or to making a weaving loom from recycled cardboard! The children examine a selection of traditional wool-spinning tools and a range of sheeps wool skeins, dyed using locally-grown plants. The children also try on a selection of hand-crafted garments made from sheeps wool.

Ideally these activities are undertaken with one group in the morning and another group in the afternoon, however Susanna can cater for larger groups if necessary. A five-series visit gives the children the opportunity to further explore textile craft and encourages them to continue working with yarn at home. Susanna is an accomplished textile artist, specialising in textile crafts and dress-making.

  • "Susanna's visit was a most memorable experience for the children. She explained the story of wool, from the fleece on sheep to the finished garment including carding and spinning (with practical examples.) She used a hands on approach and had the pupils' total attention from beginning to end. She had a pleasant and relaxed manner with the children. She imparted a great deal of information. The children really enjoyed the experience of felting as they worked in groups she had organised. This was a pleasant and calming process.
