The general characteristics of birds will be discussed and a range of common Irish wild birds will be identified by their colour and shape. The reasons why some birds move back and forward across the world (migration patterns) are discussed and linked to the geographical elements of the SESE curriculum. The class will use an App to listen for and identify individual bird sounds heard in the school yard. Classes will then be tasked with gathering data through the year and identifying changing patterns and species as the seasons change each year. How to prevent disease spread (biosecurity) from wild birds to Irish domestic poultry farms will also be discussed.
