Cathy, Ian and Niamh run Kerry Earth Education Project (KEEP) in Co. Kerry. They aim to bring practical, environmental and heritage education into schools through organic and wildlife gardening. Initially, they work with the children in carrying out an assessment of the school grounds and drawing up an organic school garden map or environmental school plan. The plan can incorporate trees, hedgerows, heritage vegetables, herbs, willow, flowers, wildflower meadows, wildlife areas, composting areas, ponds and bogs. This transforms the school grounds into an educational resource, linked to habitat studies and nature trails, amongst other curricular aspects.

Groups can also visit Gortbrack Organic Farm to experience a biodiverse nature trail, see organic growing in action and develop ideas for their own school grounds. A visit is usually be conducted by two of the experts and will cost the school the equivalent of two visits.

  • "Niamh is so well prepared. She also likes to prepare us and plan in advance of her next visit, so as to achieve the optimum level of learning"
  • "Niamh is a huge asset to the learning that takes place in our school. Over the past year she has supported us turn our organic garden into an outdoor classroom with her expertise. Niamh always arrived prepared with loads of ideas and excellent lesson plans. She has such a lovely way of interacting with students and staff. She gives 100% and more on her visits." - St. Francis Special School, Kerry
