In Margaret’s school workshops, children will be introduced to the story of spinning, dyeing and weaving. They will experience various weaving techniques such as braid weaving, inkle loom weaving and stick-weaving. The children will get a chance to weave on their own stick-loom and experience the process of hand-weaving from the setting-up of the loom to the actual weaving. They can enjoy learning the technical terms used in weaving through songs associated with the craft. The children will handle and study hand-woven items, hand-spun yarn, plant & vegetable-dyed wool and implements & materials used in the crafts of spinning and weaving. Weather and environs-permitting, these visits can be conducted outdoors where children can gather organic materials for their weaving process. Full day visits are suitable for the workshops while follow up visits can broaden the children’s experience of craftwork even further. Margaret hopes to encourage the children to be creative both in school and outside of school.
