Book in-person visit

Gráinne has 17 years' experience as a primary teacher, is a keen gardener, always inclusive of other species whose home she shares, our earth. She loves to facilitate nature connection. She is co-founder of Happy Out Forest School.

In-person visits

Gráinne and her work partner Veronica McGuire offer Forest School experience as a series of sessions which can be located in the school grounds, or, if possible, in a nearby woodland or area rich in biodiversity. Activities include weekly circle time which facilitates the connection of each child to their own chosen creature or tree, a weekly focused activity of design and making, scavenger hunt, nature art and bushcraft, animal role play games, denbuilding or other achievable group tasks, song, storytelling, imaginative play, all adapted to the interests and abilities of the individual within the group.

In a series of visits the children learn how to prepare the soil, sow seeds, care for seedlings and plants and finally harvest the food while saving seed for the following year. Gráinne is happy to work with the children in the design and making of a vegetable, herb and soft fruit garden.

Starting with an audit of what is already present, Gráinne will work with the children to enhance and develop areas for wildlife and biodiversity in the school grounds. This often includes planting a hedgerow, small woodland, wildflower meadow or border and just allowing nature to return in small, allocated areas of low human usage.
