Fiona Linnane is a composer and musician who draws inspiration from the natural world and Irish heritage. Her works include operas inspired by The Old Sailor’s Home and No.2 Pery Square in Limerick City and choral works with themes as wide ranging as the flora and fauna of the Burren to the story of a Limpet lost at sea!
Fiona has been working with Primary schools for over 15 years including projects under the Artist in Schools schemes for Tipperary, Clare and Limerick Arts Offices. Her workshops are enthusiastic, energetic and fun and aim to give students a new perspective on sound, music and our rich, often overlooked, classical music heritage.
Workshops can include:
A history of musical notation - With the opportunity for students to compose their own piece using graphic notation.
The history of Irish classical music - An introduction to Irish composers from Turlough O’Carolan to Jennifer Walshe.
Inspiring world - How to draw inspiration from the natural world and local history in composing and songwriting
Using found sounds - exploring sounds both environmental and those created by the students through vocal experimentation or found objects. Exploring bird song, weather and developing sound awareness.
