Chris Barrett is an experienced outdoor instructor, storyteller and designer. He uses the unique natural world of the Irish landscape to teach students about biodiversity and folklore. Chris firmly believes that the land around us holds the key to unlocking our fascinating shared heritage.

Placenames in Ireland are uniquely different from anywhere else in the world. These descriptions unveil the fascinating culture and natural history of the area.

Chris uses placenames, close to the school, to give students a greater understanding of their locality. This, in turn, provides the opportunity for pupils to foster a deep connection with their own natural world.

Chris uses the area of “biomimicry” to teach students about the importance of using nature as inspiration in design. A qualified product designer (BSc), Chris has utilised natural structures and processes in his work for some time.

Through an interactive and hands-on workshop, Chris provides the opportunity for students to solve problems by looking at the natural world. This causes students to form a strong focus on the area around them while focusing on a solution-based attitude.

Chris is passionate about delivering this topic to cater for a wide range of learning styles and approaches.
