Book in-person visit

Ann Marie has worked as an educator in primary schools for 25 years and is passionate about Ireland’s built and natural heritage. The workshops provided by Ann Marie engage students in these important topics using a range of interactive, hands-on experiences that will have an impact long after her visit has ended.

It is important that future generations learn to become mindful stewards of our natural and built heritage. Ann Marie believes that with careful planning and by creating a curriculum that is highly engaging for even our youngest citizens , students will gain age-appropriate knowledge of the topics covered and confidence in their ability to help preserve Ireland’s heritage.

During Ann Marie’s visit children will be engaged in cross curricular, hands-on activities to explore the ecological and environmental importance of Ireland’s hedgerows. Through this curriculum-based exploration students will discover the history of hedgerows and how they contribute to biodiversity conservation. Students will also have an opportunity to reflect on how they can help protect this critically important part of our natural heritage. This workshop is linked to the Primary Curriculum Key Competencies; Being an Active Learner, Being an Active Citizen and Being Creative.

This workshop can be adapted to match the needs and interests of the students.

As a National Tour Guide, Ann Marie provides guided history tours in her hometown of Youghal, a medieval walled town. During this workshop, students will discover the reason walled towns were constructed. They will have an opportunity to work in groups to design their own walled town. They will investigate the towns that still have existing walls on the island of Ireland and the importance of preserving them.
