Aka ‘Mouse’, I love sharing the joy of nature with others. Be it winding away the hours in a world of make believe; making dens; learning how to identity flora and fauna; collecting natural materials and crafting with them; picking up insects and experiencing how they feel or picking blackberries straight from the bush and eating them.

My belief is that every child needs some outdoor time in order for them to create their own outdoor childhood memories. So, with a conservation and environmental background, my aim is to engage children be it through SESE curriculum links or a hands-on approach.

Within the classroom I use various resources such as interactive nature slideshows; handouts; live samples or practical projects such as the making of birdfeeders or log insects homes.

Outside the classroom I introduce practical ideas to transform an area to benefit local wildlife such as bird feeding stations; wildflower patches; insect log piles; fruit tree planting or bird, bat and small animal hibernation boxes. Fieldtrips to local green spaces can be the basis for wider environmental work such a habitat surveys, nature discovery or just fun and games.

Be it junior infants racing with a leaf in their hand to drop it into a tin to help indentify leaves or 4th class walking backwards away from a tree whilst bending over and looking through their legs at the top and bottom of the tree in order to work out it’s height – nature has such resources for learning and enjoyment, my skill is about bringing the two together, children and nature – leading to life long memories, care and protection.
