Virtual Heritage in Schools - pilot programme
This new pilot virtual programme will be offered to primary schools in counties Donegal and Kilkenny over an eight week period from 28 September to 20 November. The programme will offer a mix of pre-recorded and live interactive sessions for children and teachers.
In light of the COVID-19 pandemic and uncertainty around the primary school environment for the foreseeable future the Heritage Council is considering how the Heritage in Schools programme might be adapted to offer a virtual heritage experience for primary schools. As we saw during recent times, nature, biodiversity and local heritage was hugely important for children and families and a great source of calm, solace and meaning.
A school survey was conducted by the Heritage Council in June of this year with feedback from 121 schools used to draft a plan for a pilot programme. This new pilot virtual programme will be offered to primary schools in counties Donegal and Kilkenny over an eight week period from 28 September to 20 November. The programme will offer a mix of pre-recorded and live interactive sessions for children and teachers.
The pilot programme will be free to participating schools. It will be 100% funded by the Heritage Council through the Heritage in Schools Scheme, in partnership with the Heritage Office of Kilkenny and Donegal County Councils, and the Donegal and Kilkenny Education Centres. Schools can avail of up to 8 free one hour virtual sessions each with a Heritage in Schools Specialist (see below list). Schools will be required to complete a short feedback form following their sessions.
