Mountmellick Lace, Abbeyleix Carpets, 1915 all Ireland replica hurley, pottery and weapons. After this she takes them out on a guided walking and talking tour showing them any significant and not so significant historical and cultural sites, demonstrating the difference between life today and bygone eras. Showing them places they pass every day but don’t know the history and stories behind, telling them who lived there, how they lived, how they survived different events like the great famine, therefore, encouraging an interest in their own local town/village and making them look at their home place through different eyes.
Hands on practical activities could include, picking berries/fruit and making jam / jelly, Telling the story of and making St. Brigid’s Crosses, a kids Archaeological Dig, thus allowing the kids to explore the world around them in a fun and exciting way.
