Nikki provides a combination of classroom-based learning and outdoor experience using the existing local environment to enhance learning about the natural world through discovery, exploration and creativity.
Workshops are tailored to the age of the children participating and the existing natural elements that can be accessed in the school yard, school garden or local environment.
A class room session involves using living plants and materials to teach about the structure and function of trees, the importance of trees, biodiversity and the significance and variety of the animal life that surrounds us.
Practical projects include, building a bee house or mini-beast hotel, biodiversity in the school garden, trees in the school yard, trees through the seasons, mini-beast hunt, nature walk, studying local habitats such as grassland, hedgerows, trees, pond or a stream, scavenger hunts and creative projects using gathered natural materials.
"We booked Nikki to visit the school as we are working towards our fifth green flag for biodiversity. She gave a fantastic talk and all the pupils went on bug exploration and mini-field trips. It brought biodiversity to life for the whole school."
"Nikki was fantastic to work with and I would highly recommend her to other schools. She did a lot of research into the area prior to her visit. She's a very enthusiastic and dedicated individual who interacted very well with all the children. Her visits were very beneficial and the children got a lot out of the workshop's."
"This was extremely popular with the pupils with all children having the opportunity to get involved. It was amazing how simple the structure was - this will be a feature in our school grounds for many years to come."
"Nikki had prepared so well prior to the visit, including visiting the local forest in advance. She brought all materials needed so everything was ready for the children,. They had a wonderful day. I can highly recommend her."
"This was so enjoyable we are planning another visit from Nikki in the next school year. She opened the children's eyes and imagination to using twigs, leaves etc in their art work."
"This was a most enjoyable and inspirational day for our pupils and they all went home with an item that they made themselves from natural materials."
