Nikita is passionate about environmental awareness and she uses fun and interactive methods to teach all classes about the Earth’s history, its flora and fauna, and how we can care for the environment, both locally and globally, now and into the future. With an active background in zoology, biodiversity, conservation and environmental education, she is well equipped to bring the children exploring outdoors, and to bring the outdoors indoors!

Outdoor Classroom:

The children get hands-on experience with basic experiments and techniques such as growing plants, observing weather patterns, learning how to conduct a wildlife survey and how to identify plants and animals. Scavenger hunts and bug hunts make outdoor learning even more fun, and Nikita can also assist the school in planning and designing areas such as wildflower gardens and bug hotels.

Bringing the Outdoors Indoors:

Video footage and sound recordings from different Irish habitats, along with tactile materials, are used indoors to create “nature-immersion” sensory classes – perfect for stormy days or for groups with varying degrees of physical capabilities. Learning about our environment is an enjoyable experience with an assortment of educational activities and games, including nature table quizzes, arts and crafts, a puppet theatre and animal puppets.

Biodiversity, Green Schools Themes and SESE Curriculum:

The children will learn about why we need biodiversity in our lives; the different cultural uses of biodiversity; and how early Irish people and other ancient societies used biodiversity in their lives. Workshops relating to all of the Green Schools Themes can be adapted appropriately for different ages and abilities. Each visit can be tailored to meet SESE requirements, teachers’ requests or a group’s specific needs.
