Michael's school visits are focused mainly on bird and birdsong identification and are fun and interactive. In the classroom, Michael provides quizzes, bird games and demonstrations of feeders, birdboxes and the best foods to attract birds to the school grounds. Outdoor activities include guided walks in a nearby field, park or seashore, using telescopes and binoculars to look for birds to identify. Children are also encouraged to learn to identify birds through their call. Birdwatching activities can be tailored to suit all age groups.

Michael has recently introduced willow weaving to his workshops, demonstrating how to make both birdfeeders and baskets in the classroom, or engaging the children in the construction of live willow fences in the school gardens, if appropriate.

Testimonials

  • "Michael was fantastic and very well prepared. He also spoke with us about doing the visit according to our school science plan. He visited the Baldoyle area prior to the workshops just to make sure he knew the area and had lots of resources prepared - powerpoints, bird boxes, bird feeders, bird song clips, identification keys and equipment. He was very passionate, engaging and gave great confidence to the children and teachers in doing activities like this outside - really excellent workshops."
  • "The children went on a field trip to a local woodland habitat and used telescopes and binoculars. They loved it!" - Powerstown ETNS
