Mark brings the history of trees and simple woodland crafts directly into the classroom. The children are encouraged to make simple items such as rustic faces, bird boxes and feeding tables. Children also undertake practical activities using a hammer and nails and construct useful and creative items to take home.

Mark has also developed great workshops using recycled copper from household boilers, producing a range of items with the children, from small, copper-leaf key-rings to permanent, outdoor art works. The emphasis during these projects is on the childrens creative and practical input through designing the objects and using simple hand tools.

Testimonials

  • "Very interesting workshop. Kids all really enjoyed it. Great chance for them to become familiar with practical subjects for secondary school - woodwork and metalwork."
  • "Mark Wilson is with us for 5 days. The children are really enjoying his enthusiasm and learning so much from him. Mark is giving the children the opportunity to design and make a piece which will be put together to create a ‘Tree of Embracement’ all from recycled copper. They are developing a wide variety of skills. The children can’t wait to start making their designs on Monday." - St Joseph's National School (one of 10 winning schools in Creative Heritage competition).
