Marie introduces the metalwork of the Bronze Age to the children through interactive presentations and the presentation of Bronze Age replica artefacts including gold jewellery and bronze shields. The children handle and examine objects while Marie engages them in a discussion about the archaeology, history and customs associated with the objects. She then demonstrates different metalwork techniques and the group discusses the history of the tools and materials used. The children are given the opportunity to make their own artworks - based on a Bronze Age artefact of their choice, using copper, brass or aluminium sheet metal and wire.
Marie is a freelance visual artist whose work is held in numerous public art collections throughout Ireland and the UK. She holds a Masters Degree in Visual Art, is a qualified secondary school teacher, and project manages and contributes to numerous art activities for a variety of organisations.
