Lisa is a designer maker with a keen interest in Bronze and Iron Age jewellery and artefacts. Exploring Irish Metal Work is an exciting way to bring the art of metalwork into the classroom, giving students the experience of learning about the rich history of the craft in Ireland, and a chance to work with a practicing metal smith.

Through dynamic and interactive storytelling, hands on demonstrations and activities using the tools and materials of the metal smith, a visit to a local site to find inspiration and sketch designs, and a final project using aluminium tooling foil suitable for all ages and abilities, students can spend the day immersed in the rich heritage of metalwork.

Five-day visits to the schools with additional hands on projects are available, including wirework for 4th, 5th, and 6th classes.

All materials and supplies are provided for free to the school.

Testimonials

  • "Lisa had an excellent rapport with the children of all ages and explained everything explicitly. All children enjoyed both the theory and practical learning involved."
  • "The pupils in 2nd and 5th really enjoyed Lisa's visit today and it was a nice link with both the past and importance of metal in general, functional use but also to see how metals were mined, smelted, shaped into works of art and pieces that were functional. Pupils got to ask questions and were given good engagement from the expert. Our Thanks to Lisa for her time and we're getting her back for other classes very soon!"
