Geraldine has developed many school gardens, encouraging the children to connect with nature and to gain an appreciation of locally-grown, organic food. Her workshops include school-ground assessment, garden plan designs and practical gardening sessions. The children learn about sowing, planting, taking cuttings, growing vegetables, herbs, flowers, wildflower meadows, native hedgerows, woodland, wildlife gardening, tree nurseries and composting. All of these activities are directly linked in to the SESE curriculum. Geraldine also provides activity sheets for the children to use in the classroom.
Geraldine is a horticulturist who has a passion for organic gardening. She works as a teacher and is a garden educator in Sonairte Ecology Centre, a founding member of SEED (School Earth Education) - a national network that specialises in all aspects of organic school gardening.
"Geraldine was excellent with the kids, fully involving them in what she was doing and created a huge interest with them. Would highly recommend her to another school."
"Geraldine was fantastic with the children, she held them totally enthralled from the moment she began until the moment she finished. She adjusted her material and activities so that they were age appropriate and was an excellent source of information. Our school garden is looking fabulous and the children have been inspired to continue to care for it."
"It is always a pleasure for the school and the children to have a visit from Heritage in School Specialists. Their interaction with the children is fantastic and the chance to work outdoors is wonderful for the children."
